About SAAC

Schertz Area ArtZ Council – or SAAC

SAAC was established in June of 2009 by the non-stop efforts of a local artist, Stella Marroquin.   Stella was fortunate enough to gain the encouragement and support from the wonderful people at the Schertz Civic Center (Brad Bailey, Jessica Robinson and Mary Spence) and the City of Schertz, who shared her passion for the visual fine arts and also wanted to see the fine art scene grow within our community.

Brad Bailey (Director of Public Affairs) and Christie Bourquin (Administrative Assistant at the Schertz Chamber of Commerce) joined the SAAC Board and were a great catalyst in rooting and developing the young arts organization.  Christie is also a fine art photographer and exhibited some of her outstanding prints in the first annual ArtZ  show, 2009!  SAAC was also developed with expertise knowledge in the arts organization field by Creative Director, Allison Souza.  Allison is one of the Founding Members of the Boerne Arts Council.  Jeff Jewell, of the City of Schertz Economic Developement Department, also played a vital role in the creation of SAAC.

As ArtZ ’09 (the first SAAC art event)  was being coordinated, two well established and successful local artists were invited to join the SAAC Board: Robert Wilkens and Billy Keen.  Their knowledge and expertise in the realm of the fine art business arena have been of great value to the SAAC.

Cecilia Paz Mujica ( professional local Artist), Pam Doss (professional local Artist and Art Instructor at Southwest School of Arts and Crafts), Sally Nunnelee (Art Teacher), Shelley Fluke (professional local Artist and Director of My Art Starz), Raquel Lindell (professional local artist), Ashlee Collins Mathis (professional local artist), Whitney Wiedner (professional fine art and commercial artist).

Our monthly meetings are scheduled for once a month.  Meeting times, place/venue, and date are TBA to board members and members that want to be guests.
